In late 2009, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the UNESCO published a Compendium of Good Practice in Human Rights Education. The book illustrates 101 examples of successful practice from Europe, North America and Central Asia. The aim of the book is to support of qualitiy teaching and the inspiration for educators, teachers and school directors to create new ideas.
The book was developed by the Human Rights Education Associates under the supervision of Felisa Tibbitts. The publication is structured in five main sections:
- Laws, Guidelines and Standards
- Approaches and Practices to Improve the Learning Environment
- Teaching and Learning Tools for the Classroom
- Professional Development for Educators and Other Adults
- Evaluation and Assessment Approaches
It offers a wide range of ideas as well as didactical and methodical tools to all actors interested in human rights, for example games, working papers and concepts for evaluation and feedback.
Besides the professional information and the multifarious ideas the compendium also offers a fascinating insight in the work of human rights actors in other countries. Another strength of the book are the detailed descriptions of the Good Practices. It gives information about goals and objectives and makes comments on adaptability and availability without forgetting the contact details of the initiators. People interested in the Compendium can order a hard copy or find a free download on the website of the Human Rights Education Associates (HREA).
