Human Rights and Economic Cooperation in South Eastern Europe

Project summary:

The project aim was to find out how human rights protection and the respect for the rule of law influence and improve economic development, economic cooperation and the climate for investment. The project followed two strands to pursue the above mentioned goal: firstly, capacity building in the civil society by means of human rights education in order to promote democratic citizenship (summer academies); secondly, involving managers and politicians in a dialogue on applied human rights at local level. The project approach was comprehensive and involved several activities: summer academies were hosted from 2003 until 2005, a symposium on Culture of Human Rights was organised, studies on the relation between human rights and economic cooperation were arranged and work meetings and symposia were arranged for the exchange of views and findings between academics, politicians and managers.
